Happy Friday, everyone! I was modeling this skirt in last week’s lace bow t-shirt refashion. I think this satin bow skirt refashion and that lace bow t-shirt refashion makes a great ensemble!
Satin Bow Skirt Refashion
Materials Needed:
I picked up this skirt about two years ago, and had it stored inside my sewing cabinet for “sometime in the future.” So when I decided to do this series of Bows Refashions, this skirt was going to get remade.
I really like the skirt before it was redone, except that it was three sizes too big for me and fell off my waist. But it’s cute, am I right?
Okay, so the inside of this skirt has an elastic that’s seen its better days. Out you go. I took off the waist band, here … just as a side note, you can pretty much transform any fabric, skirt, or even a shirt into a skirt for this project. That’s why I added the black t-shirt material (above). If you are going to go that route, cut a piece of fabric about twice the size of the waist, here, and make sure to add a couple of inches for the edge.
I took out some of the stitches where the fabric meets together.
Then, I sewed them into edges, so that there is a hole there.
This is what it looks like. This is where the satin ribbon will go.
Pin the fabric back to the skirt. Now, I pinned so that the fabric will make a “chevron” type of pattern … I really liked that it did that. But, you can sew it correctly. I made an oopsie the first time and sewed the waist on inside out, so make sure you sew the right sides together. 🙂
Sew onto the skirt, using a zig-zag stitch to help the stretch.
Add a straight stitch all the way around …
I made mine come out, so you can see it, but you can also stitch directly into the seam (so you cannot see it). It all depends on your taste.
Cut some satin ribbon … I made mine about twice the size of the waist.
Thread an end with a safety pin.
And fish through.
The Final:

It seems you are a fashion gems and I really liked the idea. Btw, I am trying to reach you, but I can’t find any contact page or email here. Can you please inform me how can I contact you?

Wow well done. I really admire people who have the ability to sew and creative items. I cannot even sew a button x

I like how you upscaled this skirt! I would have to hot glue gun the ribbon on since I don’t have a sewing machine! 🙂

Yay, I love it! I like recycling old stuff and turning them into something new. I am not good in sewing though but my cousin is so good at re-creating clothes that I wish I have that same skill too. Great job on this!

Great idea to add a little flare to a skirt or create a new look! I also love the shirt you recommended to go with it!

Your skirt is so cute! That’s so cool how you made it into your own design. I wish I had the talent to alter/make my own clothes. I can make pretty decent arts & crafts, so maybe my next project should be adding a bow to one of my skirts or tanks to see how that turns out!

OOH I’m so impressed! Well done! I love seeing posts where people have gotten creative and up-cycled something they wouldn’t wear into something fabulous! I also love anything stripey and girly too. It looks lovely. http://www.hellocupies.com 🙂

It’s been a long time since I last used a sewing machine, but this post gave me quite an inspiration to sit back at it again. And those boots. Holy cow, they are amazing!
