This is my way on how to professionally fold a shirt. I hate to clean, and I hate laundry even more. Laundry is a horrible demon to test the strength of any marriage. But, I like folding t-shirts! Something about making them all stand up straight makes me smile. Okay, so I’m weird. So today, I am going to provide a step-by-step guide on the absolute best way to fold a t-shirt!
How To Fold A Shirt Like A Pro
I wish I learned this trick earlier so I could have taught my children to fold their clothing correctly. They don’t even keep their clothes in a drawer though (yes, they have bureaus, they just don’t keep clothes in them). Most of their shirts are piled in a laundry basket. Oh, well.
Lay your t-shirt out flat.
No explanation really needed here 🙂
Fold in Half Width-Wise
It should be folded so both halves are matched together.
For this step, you need to imagine a square, and how wide that square will be inside your drawer. If your “end folding” does stack correctly, this is the reason why. Sometimes, you will need to fold in half, but other time, you will need to fold less than half. Does this make sense? It takes practice to get the right width.
Tuck in the Sleeve.
So it does not stick out and cause your square to be funky. Your shirt should now be one long strip.
Fold in Half Lengthwise
Now you still have a long strip, just in half.
Fold into a Third.
After folding in half, then you want to fold into thirds. At this point, you can roll your shirt, too. Such as, if you are putting your shirt into a luggage case.
Fold Over Again to Complete!
Your shirt is now bulky enough to stand up straight in any direction.
The End Result Of How To Professionally Fold A Shirt
I think the shirt folded like this is super fun.
Here it is laid flat.
And here it is inside my drawer.
I can’t seem to get anyone else in the house on board with this idea, but at least my dresser drawer is nice and pretty. (Hehe, can you see my heart cutout t-shirt refashion?)
For bonus points, separate your shirts by color.
The best part about folding like this is that you can see ALL of your t-shirts AT ONCE! This makes it super crazy easy to pick out whatever color or top you want. Or, if you are color-coordinated challenged like I am, you can just pick something in the “color range.”
