Key Fobs Craft DIY Homemade Wristlet

For Christmas, our family makes homemade gifts for each other.  We’ve had this tradition for a long time, so I’m constantly on the hunt for a DIY, homemade gift that does not totally suck.  Like most teenagers, mine have some high standards.  I originally made these cute little key fobs during Christmas a few weeks ago for the women in our family (my kids as well as sister-in-laws, nieces, and friends), but I just haven’t gotten around to writing about it.  Key fobs are so easy to make!  This entire batch of key fobs took me less than 15 minutes.

First, you’re going to need some hardware. I bought 50 – Country Brook Design 1 Inch Key Chain Fob Wristlet Hardware Set With Key Ring from Amazon.

These were a lot more than I needed. There is a cheaper 25 package as well, but that costs more per key fob.  Make sure that you get the key fobs with the rings included.  I got mine in a 1″ width because a lot of fabric webbing and ribbon comes in this width as well, but you can get them wider if you need to, such as if you are making a quilted piece of fabric. You will also need stitch witchery or other iron-on tape and some kind of decorative ribbon to go over the webbing, unless you are quilting some fabric scraps together.

I purchased 1 1/2 yards each of the ribbon and webbing (and the stitch witchery comes in a package).

Start by laying the stitch witchery on top of the webbing, like so. Hopefully you can see it. 🙂

Lay the ribbon on top of the stitch witchery, and pin it in place.

Iron, using a steam setting.  The steam helps the stitch witchery bind together.  Don’t be surprised if you need to iron the pieces several times.

After the three are fused together, cut them approximately 10 1/2″ each.  One will be short, but it is like 10″ so it’s not a big deal.  I gave the 10″ one to my little, who has a small wrist.

Fold in half, and line up with the fob hardware.

Next, we need a pair of pliers.

Use a scrap piece of cloth to the key fob down.  Clamp in the center, and then clamp on each side.

Add the key ring, and voila!

I love them.  Mine aren’t too colorful, but they are universally appealing for lots of women.  You can even make some in different colors to appeal to men, or add logos from old t-shirts if you want to add some personalized flair.

I love homemade gifts! And this one is super practical. I always have a hard time thinking of what to make the men in my family (women are easy to create for, lol). These will be perfect for next Christmas!

I wish I had better crafting skills. Give me a crochet hook and yarn and I’m great, but other projects are beyond me most days!

I have to tell you though, I received a very similar key chain to this for a present from my mother (who bought it off a very skilled crafter) and it’s been my favorite key chain!

Thanks so much for posting your blog post to the #FanDayFriday Link Party! I hope you have a great experience with the link party and come back again next week! #fdflinkparty

The idea of having home made Christmas presents is the best. About two years ago we kind of gave up on gift giving between adults because none of us really Need anything. A homemade gift though is different, the perfect solution.

Your key chains are really nice, I also like the thought of using them to mark luggage. They are one of a kind so no one else would have one at the luggage terminal.
